WAKE UP EARTH – An online retreat for young people

May 26 – May 30

An Online Retreat hosted by Deer Park, Blue Cliff and Magnolia Grove Monasteries

How can we handle the feelings of dread, loneliness and anger within us and around us? There is no “back to normal” in such an uncertain and complex world, so let’s not go back, let’s come together to build a more compassionate future.  Wake Up is an active global community of young mindfulness practitioners in their 20s & 30s inspired by the teachings of Zen Master and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh. We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness, and contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society.

Everything can begin with you. You are the foundation of any change that will happen in your society.

~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Please note: Dear friends, we recognize that young people can face quite specific issues due to where they are at in their life stage. Therefore we would like to give priority and support to those in their 20s & 30s in this retreat.
The schedule of this retreat will only be in US Time Zones. So if you can arrange your personal schedule to follow, then please register on this site. However, if you live in Europe, Africa, or Asia there is a separate but parallel Wake Up retreat organized by Plum Village Monastery where the schedule might suit your time zone better. You can register with Plum Village here.

In this retreat:

  • Learn how to practice sitting meditation with live input from Plum Village monastics
  • Live talks offered by senior monastic disciples of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh direct from our three American centers
  • Spaces to connect with people our age as we look deeply into the challenges and joys that we experience in our daily lives, including specific spaces for BIPOC and LGBT+ identified people
  • A transmission of the Five Mindfulness Trainings offered by the monastics of the Plum Village Tradition.
