Memorial Ceremony on the Fourth Year of Thầy’s Passing and Closing Rains Retreat Day
Commemorating Thay and Closing Rains Retreat
January 18, 2026
Dear Friends,
While Thay’s official Memorial Day is January 22nd, we would like to honor Thay on the last day of our Rains Retreat in Magnolia Grove Monastery on: January 18th.
Because everyday is a continuation day, we would like to also reserve this weekend to remember our Beloved Teacher.
If you are able to join us for the weekend of Jan 16-18, please invite your family, friends, and local sangha to join us!
On the evening of Saturday, Jan 17th, we will have a cosy Remembrance Circle to share stories of our Beloved Teacher, Thay, and how we inspire each other in our way of continuing Thay in the form of a Beloved Sangha: his greatest legacy.
January 18th is also the last day of our Rains Retreat: a festive day where we celebrate 90 days of continuous practice, or what we call: peaceful dwelling. It is also a day where each monastic gains one more dharma age! Happy Dharma Continuation to us all!
The program for Jan. 18th is as follows:
5:30 Thay’s Memorial Ceremony
8:30 Walking Meditation
9:45 Live Dharma Talk
11:30 Pravarana Ceremony (Closing of Rains Retreat)
12:45 Picnic Lunch
Day Concludes.
We wish you all peace and joy!

Thay has written over 100 hundred books which has been translated into many different languages.
Which book of Thay did you first read? How did it influence your life?
Thay also wrote many poems. One of his students implored him to teach us the secrets of the trade. Thay gently smiled and told us, “Our life is our greatest poem.”
In the month of January, we invite you to reflect on Thay’s life, what you have learned from him, and how Thay lives on in your everyday practice. Let us enjoy walking meditation, tea meditation, hugging meditation… not just for ourselves but also for Thay inside of us too!
Beloved
Community
Thay used to tell us, “Nothing is more important than brotherhood and sisterhood.”
Let us celebrate siblinghood and find ways to honor what's written on the scroll that both Thay and Dr. King hold depicted in this photo: The Beloved Community: To build a community that lives in harmony and awareness, that is the most noble task."
