Community Work Weekend June 8th and 9th
Dear Friends and Sanghas, near and far,
Due to the continued wonderful nature of Impermanence, in addition to the two weeks of service meditation we previously announced, we will now extend this period until we finish in June.
We regret to inform you that from May 30th–the month of June, we will continue to focus solely on working meditation to complete our kitchen and dining hall renovation in place of our regular formal practice schedule. We are aware that it takes a lot of time and energy on your part to arrange to come to our monastery and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused.
If you don’t mind our last minute changes and would still like to come, we are happy to offer you a very light, informal practice schedule during the week (Monday-Friday). Saturdays and Sundays will continue to be our “full formal practice,” days (except June 7th and 8th which will be full working days). If you prefer to wait for another time to experience our regular formal practice schedule and have already registered, we are happy to give you a full refund and hope to see you at a later date, when our kitchen renovation is complete.
Finally, we need your helping hands!
We are in our final stages of our kitchen and dining hall renovation. In the past two weeks we have been varnishing away and washing our pots, pans, utensils, tables, and chairs which were stored the past year in our shed and have moved about half of our kitchen equipment inside the new kitchen. We are still awaiting our new coolers to arrive to install and need to transport items from our current dry food storage goods in the brothers’ hamlet to our new dry food storage room. We are also gearing up for our internal retreat for Buddhist Youth Group Leaders (the equivalent of Boys and Girl Scouts) which will host over 550 people this June as a private event. We hope to have our kitchen and dining hall situated in time for this retreat. Aside from this, we need help with completing the renovation of Thay’s Hut which needs painting, clearing our forest of debris to make camping spaces, cutting grass, making beds, cleaning, transporting things to our new kitchen and dining hall… etc. Our work is all encompassing and especially endless!
With this need to focus of working meditation, we would like to announce that we will have a Community Service Weekend on June 7th and June 8th.
If you are inspired to help us this weekend, either on Saturday, Sunday, or both days, please come for the day from 9 am until after lunch or you can rest and continute to help us in the afternoon from 3pm-5:30pm.
If you are inspired to help for the day, please sign up for free at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/community-work-weekend-june-7th-8th-no-day-of-mindfulness-tickets-1389622059989?aff=oddtdtcreator and if you are inspired to stay for the weekend, please email us at office@magnoliagrovemonastery.org as this will help both our chefs and guest masters better prepare for your visit.
Please come with your local sanghas, family, friends, and help us spread the word.
We are deeply grateful for your understanding and support!
With Love,
