Honoring Thầy on his Third Memorial Ceremony
January 19, 2025
Dear Friends,
We cordially invite you to our monastery on January 19th, 2025 to honor the third year since our teacher’s passing in January 2022.
To celebrate his legacy as his continuation in the Dharma, we invite you to join us in honoring him not on this day alone but also in our everyday lives.
One of Thầy’s greatest joys in life was enjoying walking meditation.
Together, let us walk with Thầy’s mindful steps. Let us breathe with Thầy’s mindful breaths. Let us walk and breathe mindfully in such a way that there is no longer any divide between Thầy and ourselves. The student has long since become the teacher.
The student and the teacher are really just one, without any separation or difference.
Let us embody Interbeing at its finest as we immerse ourselves fully in this wonderful
art called walking meditation, together, as a community.
The program for this day is as follows:
8:30 Walking Meditation
9:45 Live Dharma Talk
11:30 Ceremony of Honoring Thay
12:45 Lunch
We look forward to seeing you!
Beloved Community
Garden
The Beloved Community Garden is one of our favorite spots to enjoy walking meditation. Here, you will be able to take a glimpse back in time when two of our beloved spiritual giants of humankind once met in 1966.
In 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. nominated Thay for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This statue, sculpted by Russian artist Alexei Kazantsev, was completed in 2015, and is inspired by this photo:
Both Thay and Dr. King shared a dream of building community. Let us honor our dear bodhisattvas by embodying their unconditional love that they shared through their lives and be their best continuation by nourishing our Beloved Community.
